ON BACKORDER - Due to arrive mid June
Dorency 500cc Oxygen Absorbers are designed for long-term food storage and help remove oxygen from sealed mylar bags and containers to extend shelf life and protect stored products.
By reducing oxygen levels inside packaging, oxygen absorbers help slow oxidation and reduce the growth of mould, bacteria, and other aerobic micro-organisms that can cause food spoilage.
Once oxygen is removed, nitrogen remains inside the package, creating a more stable storage environment without the need for additives or preservatives.
Ideal for use with mylar bags, vacuum sealing, emergency food storage, dehydrated foods, freeze dried meals, and pantry storage applications.

Best suited for foods with:
- Less than 10% moisture content
- Low oil content
Common uses include:
- Freeze dried foods
- Dehydrated foods
- Grains and rice
- Flour and baking ingredients
- Pasta and noodles
- Coffee and dry goods
- Dried fruit and vegetables
- Herbs, spices, and seasonings

HOW TO STORE UNUSED OXYGEN ABSORBERS
Oxygen absorbers are supplied vacuum sealed to prevent activation before use.
Once opened, the absorbers will begin working immediately.
To store unused absorbers:
- Place them inside a vacuum sealed bag
- Or store them in an airtight jar or container filled to minimise excess air space
When stored correctly, oxygen absorbers have an approximate shelf life of 2 years.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- Oxygen absorbers may feel warm while actively absorbing oxygen
- Once fully used, they will become firm or hard to the touch
STORING WITH MYLAR BAGS & OXYGEN ABSORBERS
OXYGEN ABSORBER INFORMATION
We recommend using food grade iron oxide oxygen absorbers, also known as deoxidisers, inside mylar bags for long term food storage.
Oxygen absorbers remove oxygen from inside sealed bags and containers to help prevent the growth of aerobic micro-organisms, mould, bacteria, and fungi, helping to prolong shelf life and protect stored food.
Different oxygen absorber sizes (cc ratings) are recommended depending on the size of the bag and the amount of air remaining inside the package.
Our oxygen absorbers are made by Dorency and contain iron powder with an oxygen absorption capacity approximately 3 times higher than the listed cc rating.
HOW TO USE OXYGEN ABSORBERS
IN A BAG: Put your food or other items into your mylar bag. Push as much air as you can out of the bag. Add the correct amount of oxygen absorbers to the bag and seal it straight away. Some bags have a zip lock seal across them and some you will need to seal with heat, such as a vacuum sealer, or heat sealer. Some people even use irons or hair straighteners to seal mylar bags.
IN A CONTAINER: Put your food into your container. Work out approx how much air is left in the container, add the appropriate amount of oxygen aborbers and seal the lid tightly.
HOW MANY OXYGEN ABSORBERS DO I NEED
Oxygen absorbers remove approximately 21% of the air inside a bag or container, as oxygen makes up roughly 21% of normal air.
General Formula
Container volume – food volume = residual air volume
Residual air volume × 0.21 = oxygen absorber size required
It is always better to slightly exceed the required oxygen absorber size rather than use too little. Using additional oxygen absorption capacity helps ensure your food remains properly protected during long-term storage.
Quick Conversions
- 1cc = 1ml
- 1000ml = 1 litre
- 3.78 litres = 1 gallon
Important Note
Different dried foods have different densities, meaning litres do not directly convert to the same weight in grams across all food types.
Always ensure food is properly dried before long-term storage.
Our Oxygen Absorbers are made by Dorency. They contain Iron Powder and have an oxygen absorbtion capacity 3 times more than the cc rating.

PROTECTION BENEFITS
When used correctly with mylar bags, oxygen absorbers help protect contents from:
- Air and oxidation
- Moisture and vapour
- Light exposure
- Mould and bacteria growth
- Food spoilage
- Odours and insects
- Rust and corrosion
They also help preserve nutrients, flavour, and freshness for long term storage.
HOW TO SEAL MYLAR BAGS
For long-term storage, we recommend using food grade oxygen absorbers inside your mylar bags before sealing.
To seal:
- Fill the bag with your chosen product
- Add the correct oxygen absorber size
- Push excess air from the bag
- Heat seal the top closure
Mylar bags can be sealed using:
- Heat sealers
- Vacuum sealers with seal function
- Hair straighteners
- Household irons
The resealable zip lock closure allows for multiple opening and resealing when long-term storage is not required.
