GEARING UP FOR THE ROAR: Packing Essentials For Easy Processing

GEARING UP FOR THE ROAR: PACKING ESSENTIALS FOR EASY PROCESSING

The Roar is upon us, and if you’re gearing up to head into the bush for that elusive stag, you’re probably already fine-tuning your packing list. When it comes to processing your meat, a little planning goes a long way. Craig, the top dog here at ZeroPak, is heading off for a solid 10-day hunt, and he’s got his gear dialed in from his 40+ years of hunting experience to make sure his catch is handled properly from the moment it hits the ground to when it lands in his freezer.

Here’s what he’s packing to make meat processing on the go efficient and hassle-free.

THE MUST-HAVE GEAR FOR PROCESSING IN THE FIELD:

  1. Hakka TC12 Mincer

Check it out here
A solid mincer is a game-changer when processing meat in bulk. The Hakka TC8 or TC12 can be run from a battery power pack. Craig uses the Hakka TC12 Electric Meat Mincer. It is powerful enough to handle a good volume of venison yet compact enough to transport. The beauty of mincing on the go? You’re reducing the bulk of your meat, making it easier to transport and freeze later.

  1. ZeroPak TravelVac 12-Volt Vacuum Sealer

Vacuum sealing in the field isn’t just about keeping meat fresh—it’s about keeping it protected. Craig brings his ZeroPak TravelVac, a 12-volt vacuum sealer and packs his catch  at base camp or sometimes even out in the paddock. He vacuum packs his meat into manageable portions and keeps it either in a battery powered chiller or in an ice slurry until he gets home.

  1. Battery Power Pack & Battery-Powered Chiller

While ZeroPak doesn’t sell these, Craig swears by his battery power pack and chiller for keeping meat at a safe temperature. If you’re serious about hunting, investing in reliable off-grid cooling is a no-brainer.

WHY START THE PROCESS OF PROCESSING IN THE FIELD?

  • Less Work Later – By breaking down the carcass, boning out and mincing meat on-site, you bring home only what you need.
  • Easier Transport – Vacuum-sealed meat packs take up less space than unprocessed meat and is less messy to handle.
  • Longer Freshness – Vacuum sealing meat in an airtight pack prevents exposure to bacteria and ensures it stays fresher, longer.
  • Ready for the Next Step – Once Craig is back, he’ll be diving straight into making his own sausages and patties. We’ll have a follow-up blog and videos on that process soon.

Are You Roar-Ready?

The right gear makes all the difference in making sure your hard-earned harvest isn’t wasted. Whether you’re processing meat in camp or prepping it for the trip home, a quality vacuum sealer and mincer are absolute essentials.
