Description
Mylar bags stand up pouch with zip lock bags protect your food from light, air oxidation, liquid, moisture, insects, odour, vapour and Xray.
They can withstand temperatures from -18 degrees celsius up to 100 degrees celsius and be used for long term food storage of 20 years or more!
Use the bags for cold storage or to reheat a meal. Dried food, dehydrated food and freeze dried food all store well in mylar bags.
Food Grade, Reusable & Recyclable:
Our Mylar bags are food grade, BPA free, reusable and recyclable. Easy to open with a tear tab, a zip top for multiple closing and reopening.
Mylar bags are 3 layers thick with aluminium in the middle layer. They are BPA free, extremely strong, puncture resistant yet feel thin and flexible. They are a good barrier from air, moisture, mould, vapour, odours and light.
Our mylar bags have been tested for food safety and comply with FDA food grade safety standards and are also BPA free. 4.5 Mil each side and made with three layers, comprising PET on the outside for strength, aluminium in the middle and PE on the inside enabling the bag to be sealed.
Longer Term Food Storage
Sealing Is Easy:
Always use an oxygen absorber inside your bag adding it just before sealing. Push the air out of the bag and seal it using a heat sealer, vacuum sealer on high setting (seal function), iron or your hair straightener!
Bag Size:
Here is the approximate volume for this bag size allowing for the lost space at the top seal.
Stand UP Pouch Bag 15cm x 25cm x 5cm 1 Quart / 1.5 Litres
Oxygen Absorbers:
We recommend using food grade iron oxide oxygen absorbers also known as deoxidisers inside mylar bags for long term storage. Iron oxide oxygen absorbers remove oxygen from inside the bag to prevent the growth of aerobic micro organisms, mould, bacteria and fungi prolonging shelf life. Different cc ratings for different sized bags or food types are recommended.
How Many Oxygen Absorbers Do I Need?
When using oxygen absorbers they will remove 21% of the air inside the bag or container. This is because the absorbers only remove the oxygen (O2) which is about 21% of air.
The general formula for cubic centremetre of oxygen absorption required is:
Container volume – food volume = residual air volume
Residual air volume x 0.21 (because air is 21% oxygen) = oxygen absorber size needed
It is okay to exceed the size of oxygen absorber needed and its better to err on the safe side and use more.
Conversions:
1cc = 1ml
1000ml = 1 litre
3.78 litres = 1 gallon
